Get ready for movie marathons

It’s almost fall (and if you live in New England, watch out for those Leaves Peepers) and about time to ring in hibernation season with one or two movie marathons. Here are EvdodepotUSA’s top five choices for video streaming apps that give you access to virtually limitless collections of movies and shows.

1. A pioneer in online video streaming, Netflix™ recognized early on that being the middleman between studios and online customers was neither the most profitable nor the most sustainable role for the company long term. Studios were, and still are, reluctant to let any of the profit from their movies and shows slip through their fingers. Negotiating distribution rights with studios was always a battle for Netflix.

Netflix started to produce original content because being the middleman was just not rewarding in the short or long term.

As a result, Netflix began producing its own shows to distribute on its popular app. Netflix originals like Orange Is the New Black and House of Cards found huge success on the platform. Netflix also produced critically acclaimed shows like Master of None and resurrected old favorites like Arrested Development and, this fall, Gilmore Girls. Netflix’s solid platform and innovative approach to video streaming gives it our top spot.
Through Netflix, users can stream thousands of movies and TV shows. The least expensive Netflix subscription for streaming only costs $7.99 per month and includes SD streaming on one screen at a time. Its most expensive plan costs $11.99 per mouth and includes HD streaming on four screens simultaneously.

2. As Netflix shifts its focus to original content, to still deliver all your old favorites. you can count on Hulu The streaming service is owned jointly by Fox, NBC, and Disney, so it has unfettered access to a lot of the best movies and shows from established studios. TV shows available on Hulu include those broadcast on ABC, Comedy Central, the CW, FOX, NBC, MTV, and Univision. New episodes are available on Hulu the day after they are broadcast on these networks.
Getting a Hulu subscription is like sleeping with a variety of your quality friends; old and new, but with sporadic interruptions (ad-supported)

Hulu is, partly, an ad-supported video service that lets users stream a selection of movies and TV shows for free. It is also partly an ad-supported subscription video service that, for $7.99 per month, lets users stream a wider selection of movies and TV shows and watch video in high definition.

3. Amazon Video is Amazon.com’s on demand video service.

Through Amazon Video users can rent (~$3.99 SD, ~$4.99 HD) or purchase (~$14.99 SD, ~$19.99 HD) thousands of movies and TV shows. Amazon Video has also experimented with original content to, definitely, less success than Netflix, but more so than Hulu. Its highly rated Mr. Robot series, for example, is halfway through its second season.
Amazon Video is really geared toward people with literally no patience. They want to watch the most current program(s) now. They just can’t wait! And, Don’t you dare make them wait!

Users must purchase television episodes (there is no rental option) for ~$1.99 SD or ~$2.99 HD.

Amazon offers a TV Seasons Pass on a show-by-show basis. The pass allows the user to access every episode of a season for a discounted price. New episodes of shows are available on Amazon the day after they are broadcast on network television. They can be streamed or downloaded and watched offline.

4. HBO was the first major network to launch an independent streaming service to bring their movies and shows to exclusively online customers. With HBO Now, which costs ~$14.99 per month, users can access HBO shows like Game of Thrones. Although the seventh season of Game of Thrones is not expected to debut until summer 2017, subscribers can stream past episodes of all HBO shows, including Game of Thrones.
